Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s focus is all about our top ten Halloween favourites! Here is my selection of top…eleven…not-so-scary picture books. Some are funny, some are gently spooky, some are more contemplative, some surprising, all are (in my opinion!) terrific reads.

The Dark by Lemony Snicket, illus. Jon Klassen
The Black Rabbit by Philippa Leathers
Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds, illus. Peter Brown
Night Animals by Gianna Marino
The Doghouse by Jan Thomas
The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone, illus. Michael Smollin
The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot! by Scott Magoon
Bedtime for Monsters by Ed Vere
That Is Not a Good Idea! by Mo Willems
The Monsters’ Monster by Patrick McDonell
Black Dog by Levi Pinfold
Be sure to check out some of the other Top Ten Lists!
Some of these are new to me, thanks for sharing them! Creepy Carrots is one of my favourites. 🙂
So happy to hear I introduced some new titles to you! Creepy Carrots is fantastic– I think it will remain one of my Halloween (and anytime!) storytime favourite for years to come. 🙂
The Monster at the End of this Book is my favourite!!!
Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten! Our library actually didn’t have The Monster at the End of This Book for some time, and now I don’t know what we’d do without it! It’s just a staple of funny- not spooky or scary- reads that kids of various ages seem to LOVE. And Grover is just too cute! 😉
Love your list, good idea not to make them too spooky or scary…There are few titles named that I will definitely share.
Thank you! 🙂 That’s awesome to hear that there are some titles you would share!
I love your idea of doing picture books! ‘The monster at the end of this book’ was a favorite of mine growing up and I’m excited to see it on your list. There are definitely quite a few on here, I’ll have to check out for myself 🙂 Great List!
Thanks so much, Elle! I adored Grover growing up, so The Monster at the End… is definitely a nostalgic favourite- but one that still holds up! 🙂
