A Book Giveaway Featuring Harry Potter!

Time for a new giveaway! This one is all about J.K. Rowling’s magical world of Harry Potter…you know, the series about the famous wizard with a lightning scar that some readers may be familiar with? All muggle kidding aside, I have three beautiful books here, all titles courtesy of Raincoast Books, that one lucky reader has a chance to win: a special adult edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone featuring Andrew Davidson’s artwork; a hardcover edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; and last but not least, the fantastical Harry Potter: A History of Magic put together by the British Library, Bloomsbury, and J.K. Rowling. I can’t really say much more about the series- the Potter world and publications have been covered  extensively- so I will just add a short note to say that these particular titles are really beautiful special editions and I’d love to find these new books a home with a fan of the series. Read on for some details about the books and how to enter the giveaway!

Here’s a bit of information about each of the books:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) by J.K. Rowling

‘He’ll be famous- a legend- I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter Day in future- there will be books written about Harry’ Minerva McGonagall

Strange things always seem to happen when Harry Potter is around. Things that unsettle his guardians, the Dursleys. They strongly disapprove of strangeness. It’s only when a letter arrives, delivered by a shaggy giant of a man called Hagrid, that Harry learns the truth that will transform his entire future: his parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldemort, and he, Harry, is a wizard. Whisked away to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, Harry discovers a world of enchantments, ghosts, Quidditch, and friends who will stand, through everything, by his side. But when Harry hears of a stone with great powers, he finds that his school has its own dark secrets – and an adventure that will become the stuff of legend begins. These adult editions have been stylishly redesigned to showcase Andrew Davidson’s beautiful woodcut cover artwork.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (A Hogwarts Library Book) by J.K. Rowling

A brand new edition of this essential companion to the Harry Potter stories, with a new foreword from J.K. Rowling, an irresistible new jacket by Jonny Duddle, illustrations by Tomislav Tomic and six new beasts!

An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the Wizarding World. In this comprehensively updated edition, eagle-eyed readers will spot a number of new beasts and an intriguing new author’s note. Scamander’s years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance. Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail … Others will surprise even the most ardent amateur Magizoologist. Dip in to discover the curious habits of magical beasts across five continents …

Harry Potter: A History of Magic

Harry Potter: A History of Magic is the official book of the record-breaking British Library exhibition, a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between Bloomsbury, J.K. Rowling and a team of brilliant curators. As the spectacular show takes up residence at the New York Historical Society from October 2018, this gorgeous book – available in paperback for the first time – takes readers on a fascinating journey through the subjects studied at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from Astronomy and Potions through to Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures.

Each chapter showcases a treasure trove of artefacts from the British Library and other collections around the world, beside exclusive manuscripts, sketches and illustrations from the Harry Potter archive. There’s also a specially commissioned essay for each subject area by an expert, writer or cultural commentator, inspired by the contents of the exhibition – absorbing, insightful and unexpected contributions from Steve Backshall, the Reverend Richard Coles, Owen Davies, Julia Eccleshare, Roger Highfield, Steve Kloves, Lucy Mangan, Anna Pavord and Tim Peake, who offer a personal perspective on their magical theme.

Readers will be able to pore over ancient spell books, amazing illuminated scrolls that reveal the secret of the Elixir of Life, vials of dragon’s blood, mandrake roots, painted centaurs and a genuine witch’s broomstick, in a book that shows J.K. Rowling’s magical inventions alongside their cultural and historical forebears. This is the ultimate gift for Harry Potter fans, curious minds, big imaginations, bibliophiles and readers around the world who missed out on the chance to see the exhibition in person.

  1. “Tough question! Who is your most favourite character in the Harry Potter universe?” Hmm–Fred or George Weasley as played by James and Oliver Phelps, or Tom Riddle as played by Christian Coulson!
