Welcome to the seventh edition of Must Read Monday! On Mondays I will spotlight some new and/or upcoming releases I am looking forward to. The lists will include all genres I like to read, everything from picture books to comics, children’s lit to adult fiction!

This week I am featuring upcoming titles from Canadian author/artist/illustrator Kate Beaton:

Expected publication: September 15, 2015 by Drawn and Quarterly
I adore and admire the work of Beaton so much. This upcoming Hark! A Vagrant collection is something I’m really looking forward to. To quote the book blurb up on Amazon:

Ida B. Wells, the Black Prince, and Benito Juárez burst off the pages of Step Aside, Pops: A Hark! A Vagrant Collection, armed with modern-sounding quips and amusingly on-point repartee. Kate Beaton’s second D+Q book brings her hysterically funny gaze to bear on these and even more historical, literary, and contemporary figures. Irreverently funny and carefully researched, no target is safe from Beaton’s incisive wit in these satirical strips.

Expected publication: June 30, 2015 by Arthur A. Levine Books
This will be Beaton’s first foray into children’s picture books, and I cannot wait to read it! Here’s a bit from the book description:

Princess Pinecone knows exactly what she wants for her birthday this year. A BIG horse. A STRONG horse. A horse fit for a WARRIOR PRINCESS! But when the day arrives, she doesn’t quite get the horse of her dreams…From the artist behind the comic phenomenon Hark! A Vagrant, The Princess and the Pony a laugh-out-loud story of brave warriors, big surprises, and falling in love with one unforgettable little pony.

A warrior princess named Pinecone? Doesn’t it sound fantastic?!
