Must Read Monday (2)

Welcome to the second edition of Must Read Monday! On Mondays I will spotlight some new and/or upcoming releases I am looking forward to. The lists will include all genres I like to read, everything from picture books to comics, children’s lit to adult fiction!

dragonsbeware22718678Dragons Beware! by Jorge Aguirre, illus. Rafael Rosado
This is the follow-up to the highly entertaining middle grade graphic novel Giants Beware!, which was released in 2012. Featuring young and brave Claudette, her brother Gaston and friend Marie, this adventure will follow the trio as they hunt for the dragon that savagely attacked Claudette’s father. I really enjoyed Giants Beware!: wonderfully illustrated with a terrific story and intrepid young female protagonist to boot, so I am very much looking forward to this sequel.
(Expected publication: May 12, 2015 by First Second)

saintanything23009402Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
At one point, Sarah Dessen was my go-to for contemporary-with-a-dash-of-romance YA. Over the last number of years, I personally felt disconnected with her latest offerings- specifically with Lock and Key, What Happened to Goodbye and The Moon and More. Perhaps I just adored her earlier novels like The Truth About Forever so much that everything else that followed seemed to pale in comparison. However, I am keeping my optimism up about this newest novel and hoping that Dessen breaks (what I feel are) her predictable writing patterns.
(Expected publication: May 5, 2015 by Viking Juvenile)
